I now discovered that Ghostscript + (Windows) GSView have functions for
fixing the BoundingBox by mouse pointing and clicking ("PS to EPS"), and
also for adding ("Add EPS Preview") and removing ("Extract EPS") a preview -
in various formats.
That software package seems to be a goldmine of hidden functionality.
