Subject: Re: DOCBOOK: Newbie: Overwrite contents of a dbl1XX.ent file
While this topic is on discussion, I'd like to ask you what about implementing another language in DocBook? The problem is: there's a "pt" file, which stands for portuguese. According to some ISO standard (sorry, I don't remember which one) some countries have 4 letter designation for their idiom. As an example, for Portugal we have pt and pt_PT. For Brazil we use pt_BR. Translations in some cases _are_ different and can't coexist. In LaTeX the babel package solved that problem with a "brazil" option (which was a subset of the "portuguese" option). I was interested on creating a pt_BR translation of DocBook messages and use it as an official translation, so we would have to have a valid filename (this is other problem: Windows compatibility) and include it in DocBook. How's it done? If they aren't, why there's this difference? If they are, why are they duplicated? I made a comparison between the files and what I got was this: [godoy@nexus godoy]$ diff -u style/dsssl/docbook/html/dbl1pt.dsl style/dsssl/docbook/print/dbl1pt.dsl --- /home/ldp-br/SGML/style/dsssl/docbook/html/dbl1pt.dsl Mon Oct 19 11:24:32 1998 +++ /home/ldp-br/SGML/style/dsssl/docbook/print/dbl1pt.dsl Mon Oct 19 10:31:38 1998 @@ -8,33 +8,13 @@ <style-specification id="docbook-l10n-pt"> <style-specification-body> -;; $Id: dbl1pt.dsl,v 1.1 1998/10/19 12:24:32 nwalsh Exp $ +;; $Id: dbl1pt.dsl,v 1.1 1998/10/19 11:31:38 nwalsh Exp $ ;; ;; This file is part of the Modular DocBook Stylesheet distribution. ;; See ../README or http://www.berkshire.net/~norm/dsssl/ ;; &cmn.pt; - -;; These need to be translated! - -(define (gentext-pt-nav-prev prev) - (make sequence (literal "Prev"))) - -(define (gentext-pt-nav-prevsib prevsib) - (make sequence (literal "Fast Backward"))) - -(define (gentext-pt-nav-nextsib nextsib) - (make sequence (literal "Fast Forward"))) - -(define (gentext-pt-nav-next next) - (make sequence (literal "Next"))) - -(define (gentext-pt-nav-up up) - (make sequence (literal "Up"))) - -(define (gentext-pt-nav-home home) - (make sequence (literal "Home"))) </style-specification-body> </style-specification> [godoy@nexus godoy]$ IMHO, these definitions in the print version wouldn't make sense BUT, as they aren't used, they could be there so that we could have a single file instead of two.
