To answer my own question, it is a stylesheet affect.

Further poking has me asking ``Do I change dbparams.dsl directly or should I
write a driver?''  

Because for my current use of $mono-seq$, i.e. varname, I don't want to
scale the font size. Also how and where should I redefine $guilabel-seq$ as
I do want to scale the font size for these.

I am using jade and the dsssl 1.73 print stylesheets.
