Subject: Xrefs to untitled figures

I have an article with figures that are formal but untitled; that is, to be referred to as Fig.3, etc. In the body text xref elements generate eg 'Figure 3" but suffix the comma-ed and double-quoted title text even when it is empty, eg Figure 3, "",.

In stylesheet fo/xref.xsl template title.xref applies a template for xref with mode="title.markup". That seems the template to find and customise, but searching /fo for 'title.markup' finds only further apply-template elements and 2 further templates in xref.xsl with mode="insert.title.markup". I can find in /fo no other instances of "insert.title.markup".

It looks as if a mode="title.markup" template that I can't see generates the commas and double-quotes and proceeds to apply the mode="insert.title.markup" templates. But where could that template be?

Any advice appreciated.

Stephen Taylor
