Yes, there is a route from DocBook to MS Word, using the stylesheets that in the "roundtrip" directory in the Docbook XSL distribution. It is restricted to a subset of DocBook currently, but might be sufficient for your purposes. See: http://www.sagehill.net/docbookxsl/MSWord.html There is also a route to formatted plain text (ASCII or not) with a helper app, as described here: http://www.sagehill.net/docbookxsl/FormattedText.html I have used it when I needed formatted plain text output.
