Subject: DocBook Slides 5.0 alpha1 available for testing

Dear DocBook Users,

I'm proud to announce the first alpha of the new DocBook Slides 5.0
schema extension, rewritten for DocBook 5.0. Please take into account
that this is a really early version and may contain bugs and later
changes may break compatibility with this version (although the schema
probably will not change heavily). It is purely meant to be preview for
interested users, who are willing to test it.

This extension is written in RELAX-NG for the DocBook 5.0 RELAX-NG
schema and uses a new namespace for Slides elements. You can convert
your old Slides with the XSLT in the tools directory, which should be
able to deal with all common cases. Currently, stylesheets are only
available for XHTML-based formats. The recommended format is HTML Slidy
or plain XHMTL with custom CSS. The quite widespread S5 format is also
available but development of the upstream code seems to be discontinued
so its use is discouraged. All of these stylesheets are based on the
NS-aware DocBook stylesheets, which are bundled into this alpha release
for easier setup. Development of XSL-FO stylesheets will begin in the
near future.

The alpha version can be downloaded from here:
http://kovesdan.org/files/slides-5.0-alpha1.tar.gz

After downloading, please start at the ALPHATEST file.

When reporting your experiences, please consider that this extension is
still under very active development and avoid bikeshedding or complex
feature requests.

Regards,
Gabor Kovesdan
