As follows:

Pim has discussed the second ebXML profile in Nick's requirements document
(signing/verification services combined with SOAP/ebXML intermediary
processing) with some participants on the ebXML TCs.  The ebXML Messaging TC
is currently looking at definining the functionality of ebXML intermediaries
but is initially concerned with "transparent" intermediaries (intermediaries
that do not change the ebXML structure, where end-to-end signatures are
preserved as is).  This is already a non-trivial topic (due to relations
with the underlying WS-A, WS-RM/WS-R specifications) so any types of
processing that would modify the message (e.g. a DSS-aware intermediary that
inserts signatures) are out of scope for the moment.
