Subject: Re: [dss-x] Funding support for 2022 for IDtrust affiliated technical committees

Hi John,

Can you provide a rough estimate of the costs for each of the three projects?
here are our estimates:
1.: Setup 30kâ, Yearly fee: 800,-â

2.: 60 kâ developing an testing

3.: 0,-
I believe that the first item (conformance testbed) would require buy-in from OASIS management and a serious cost/benefit analysis. I recall that OASIS has been reluctant in the past to get involved in accreditation and conformance testing. For item 3, are there outreach/collaboration opportunities that you are aware of that might benefit from OASIS marketing or other support?

Interesting to know that OASIS does not consider conformance badges as a intersting option for implementors!

Our idea for marketing support is a (online) session by an OASIS official to endorse our multi-syntax and conformance efforts.

Greetings,

Andreas

1. creation of a DSS 2.0 conformance test bed
To improve the acceptance of a standard it is important to have supporting documents and tools. A set of defined test cases is a good starting point, but a ready-made test bed ensuring compliance is a real win for any interested party, user or implementer. This turns 'words on paper' into the statement 'This implementation is compliant!' Maybe OASIS could charge a small fee for signing a successful compliance report, giving it an official 'OASIS approved compliance' label. This may improve the prominence of the brand âOASISâ, too.

This task would require initial setup effort and an ongoing fee for the running and managing the testbed server and a license fee for the used tools.

2. support for our single semantic / multi syntax approach to support CBOR (in addition to XML and JSON)

When our TC decided to enhance it supported syntax from XML to JSON and XML there we were convinced that this will not be the end of the journey, other syntaxes will follow. Recently the CBOR syntax attracted attention.

Therefore, we would like to extend our single-semantic / multi-syntax approach to support CBOR. One of our intentions when designing DSS core 2.0 was the availability of a sample implementation of the specified elements in Java. The task to support CBOR in this model would be the validation of existing JAXB (Java Architecture for XML Binding) bindings for CBOR. Despite its name this component is designed to support different concrete serialization format besides XML, e.g. JSON.

A second aspect is to (automatically) derive a schema document, presumably in the JSON format Our estimation is a workload of 6 months for developing and testing such a component.Seeing many other OASIS specifications dealing with multiple syntax bindings, we are convinced that such a component could be useful for other TCs, too.

 3. subsidy of PR activities (e.g. sponsoring of events, travel expenses)

The TC is considering to join planned events to boost the awareness of 'DSS core 2.0' and its multi-syntax approach. We assume a majority of events to be performed online. So no travel or other expenses are expected.

Best regards,

John

Hi Andreas,
I hope my note finds you well. I did not receive your attachment but looked in email archives. I saw the document but did not see the 'amount' of the funding request -- can you share with John and I? We are trying to submit the budget.

Hi Dee,

the DSS-X TC would like to take advantage of IDtrust's kind funding offer. See the description of our planned activity attached.

Greetings,

Andreas

TC members,

It is that time of year -- the IDtrust MS Steering Committee (StC)
will be submitting the 2022 budget to the OASIS Board soon.

One of the mandates for the StC is to provide support to the IDtrust
affiliated TCs. Please submit any anticipated expenses that may be
funded by the MS to

support the development or adoption of the work of the TC; such as F2F
or interop support (internet, meeting space, AV equipment, conference
space

fee). TC representatives are always welcomed to discuss the request
with the StC and/or join the monthly call for any reason.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Regards,

dee
