Subject: [dss] draft-rundgren-pkix-pnppki4ws-00.txt

Title: draft-rundgren-pkix-pnppki4ws-00.txt

A new Internet-Draft is now available that I thought may be of some interest to this group.  The announcement is included below, but it describes a new extension for X.509 certificates that is meant to allow them to better support Web services by, among other things, explicitly supporting globally unique identities.

Anders Rundgren, the author of the draft, asked me to forward this to the DSS TC in order to obtain the group's opinions.  I've also attached the latest revision of the draft, as well as a PowerPoint presentation describing its features.

'Web Services' [2, 3] is the collective name of a set of emerging
technologies targeted for ultimately supporting Plug-and-Play (PnP)
integration of business- and information-systems, within and between
organizations.  This specification covers an X.509 certificate
extension, designed to enable PnP-support for the Public Key
Infrastructure (PKI) part of a Web Service.  In addition to
supporting Web Services, the extension is also intended to be
useable for general-purpose PKI-enabled applications.  A PowerPoint
presentation highlighting the core of this specification is also
available [4]

a MIME-compliant mail reader.  Different MIME-compliant mail readers
exhibit different behavior, especially when dealing with
"multipart" MIME messages (i.e. documents which have been split

        how to manipulate these messages.
