Folks,
A free (trial) xml
digital signature creation
application is now available. It allows users to sign files and
XML/HTML forms online. Signed documents are stored on the server for future
reference, cosigning and forwarding. The resulting signed file is downloadable
as a gzipped XML (.sig) and is compatible with the SecureSign Desktop Document
Signer (free viewer is available for download) for offline viewing and
cosigning.
In this signature creation application, the digest
calculation for the data (file+form) being signed takes place on the server
while the final encryption of the digest value takes place on the client side
where the private key resides. This approach minimizes the data transfer back
and forth between the client and the server thereby improving overall
performance and enhancing user experience. As I remember from the early
discussions on this group, such a use case was considered and hence you may find
this implementation interesting. The certificate validation is based on CRL
fetching. It can be configured to use CAM or OCSP as
well.
The application will
download and install a client side component. The user must have administrative
privilege in order for the install to go through. Currently only Internet
Explorer 5.5 and above are supported on Windows platform.
Your comments are
welcome.
Best
