Subject: Re: reliable messaging - hop by hop
Date: Wed, 29 Aug 2001 11:51:28 -0400 From: Martin W Sachs <mwsachs@us.ibm.com> MWS: In the HTTPR spec it doesn't just assume; it states an assumption that intermediaries store and forward reliably. This is crucial to understanding how the hop by hop reliability can work. Without such a statement in the MSG spec, it is necessary to not trust the intermediaries. That's why (I agree) we must be clear about stating assumptions on how the endpoints and intermediaries are designed. We don't want to do the design but we must say things like "this assumes that the intermediaries store and forward reliably". Yes, I agree completely. This is an important decision and I don't think we'll be able to sort our way through the reliable messaging discussion until it's decided one way or the other (whether to assume that the intermediaries store and forward properly).
