Subject: RE: [ebxml-msg] Face to Face?

If Messaging plans to meet in the summer of 2002,
I would hope they meet at the combined meeting.
People who work on both committees otherwise
have a double whammy on travel.

I assume that the open issues would be for maintenance,
and then there was a litany of large issues mentioned,
such as:

1.XML encryption available. Will ebXML Messaging say anything
about its use for confidentiality and digital enveloping
sorts of operations?
2.Intermediaries.
3.Revisiting profile usage (Davids F and B)
Maybe do extensions to an IPR unencumbered
specification like WSDL may be so far.
4.Getting some replacement editors.
5.And so on.

I think there is probably more than enough above
that is really postponed from 2.0 to meet to decide
how/whether to go forward. But Ian emphasized the
importance of item 4, and I have not heard how
that has been resolved.

If we decide just to do maintenance, maybe that could
be done on the list, one or two issues at a time.
And if that is all that is going to be done on
Messaqing in the near future, maybe no joint meeting
is really needed. If you decide to add support for
items 2 and 3, I know CPPA would appreciate hearing how
you plan to proceed.

It's unlikely I could travel that week as I'm headed
to France the following week and travel budget is tight.
What would be the agenda? Haven't seen any proposals
for new work items offered to the list beyond the trickle
of postings that followed Ian's recent posting asking
what's next.

Are we going to deal with the outstanding issues?

In order to justify the travel, there'd need to be
a more coherent purpose for the meeting.

Cheers,

Chris
