Subject: RE: [egov-ms] Future of the eGovernment Member Section (UNCLASSIFIED)
Jerry It certainly will not be the same old stuff be assured of that. It's more about the best and easiest way to move things forward. The Board had a number of concerns about our ideas to disband and start afresh and as I said the agreed solution is to keep what we have but modify it going forward. So I would expect to see a proposal to re-charter going back the Board from the new Steering Committee at some stage in the near future which would take us down the road that we had talked about, ie Peter's suggestions. But of course at the end of the day it will depend on what the membership want and are prepared to endorse. So I will be looking for some very active discussions on this with them and approval by them to any changes to the current charter. It seems to me that the course that I understood as being pursued was appropriate: to disband the current structure, create a new one with an expanded constituency of actual government representatives, and change the name/focus of the activity as suggested by Peter Brown. Instead it now appears to be as "same old stuff". Right? If so, IMHO that will not have much beneficial value added. R, Jerry -----Original Message----- From: egov-ms@lists.oasis-open.org [mailto:egov-ms@lists.oasis-open.org] On Behalf Of John Borras Sent: Friday, March 09, 2012 9:50 AM To: egov-ms@lists.oasis-open.org Subject: [egov-ms] Future of the eGovernment Member Section Members There have been a lot of discussions going on over the last few months about the future of the eGov Member Section and views on the best way forward have been changing as these discussions have progressed. Following the latest round of discussions with the Board and OASIS Staff we have concluded that closing the Member Section is not the best way forward and hence your Steering Committee changed its mind and voted against this in the ballot Scott announced below. At our Committee meeting this week we have agreed to continue, consult all members on the future direction and then develop a new work programme. If necessary we will seek to re-charter the Member Section. Following this decision it will be necessary to hold elections for a number of seats on the Steering Committee because the current incumbents have completed their two year terms. A call for nominations will be made shortly and I would urge everyone to consider putting their names forward please. I apologise on behalf of the Steering Committee for all the confusion on this issue and for the delay in finding the right way forward. If anyone wishes to raise any questions over any of this please get in touch, either directly to me or via the mailing list.
