Subject: Groups - BS 8723 Part 1 (DRAFT).zip uploaded

The document BS 8723 Part 1 (DRAFT).zip has been submitted by Farah Ahmed (farah.ahmed@e-envoy.gsi.gov.uk) to the OASIS e-Government TC document repository.

Document Description:
Here are the draft documents relevant to taxonomies, as promised at the Workshop held earlier this month. They have been developed as British Standards, but the hope is that they will lead directly on to International (ISO) Standards.

The revised standard is conceived in 5 parts, of which only two (Parts 1
and 2) are attached as sufficiently advanced for distribution. Part 1 is
general; Part 2 concentrates on monolingual thesauri; Part 3 will cover
other sorts of controlled vocabulary; Part 4 will address mapping
between vocabularies; Part 5 will cover formats and protocols for data
transmission and exchange. So in fact Parts 4 and 5 are the ones most
directly needed to further the aims of taxonomy harmonization.

Parts 1 and 2 are about to be issued by BSI as Drafts for Public
Comment, and when this happens they will be available through the BSI
website. The versions attached are penultimate drafts. In other words,
they do not include some editorial amendments required for conformance
with the BSI house-style. There are no substantive corrections in the
pipeline, although any comments received from OASIS members could lead
to amendments before the Drafts are approved.
