Subject: RE: [egov] Groups - Draft programme face to face meeting London (E-govProgramme London v0.1l.doc) uploaded

I'd support Michael's idea.

Although I'm not 100% sure to attend yet, there would certainly be interest from the side of the Austrian government: we are launching an EU initiative on the development of an "EU eGovernment Resources Network", at the centre of which are two important components:
- a common Government eServices reference information model (common model for describing the government eService "objects" that might be maintained and available through individual administrations' interoperability frameworks and/or registries);
- an approach to information sharing based on federated information registries, possibly including a proof of concept with a number of administrations using different registries and implementations, ebXML, UDDI, commercial and open source, to test the concept of federated information sharing.

We had a first informal meeting to discuss the initiative this Tuesday in Brussels with 7 EU governments present and there was support for my suggestion that some of the work at least could/should be carried through the OASIS TC process...

I will, in a separate post, give more details of the initiative and related work, that could indeed form the basis of an input for the F2F

regards,

Peter

I think it would be very interesting to hear about the canadian work regarding registries - and to discuss this subject matter in the TC.

We do not have a ebXMl repository/registry as such, but something similar.
In Denmark we have the so-called Infostructurebase (http://isb.oio.dk), which is a XML schema registry/repository and a UDDI for public web services. This solution includes case handling process which includes quality checking of schema components in relation to our NDR, online validation and other tools.

We intend to develop the tool-park further to include more types of content and are currently working on prototypes for cross-governmental tools called a "Architecture Library" for various types of architecture documents and a "Component Library" for code/applications and bits and pieces of code. These tools are to be related via common metadatelements, taxonomies and use of name space. The purpose of these projects is sharing, re-using and coordinating architectural and infrastructural elements with relevance within and across domains, thus supporting the e-gov strategy and the so-called OIO architecture paradigm (OIO = Open public Information Online).

If there is time and interest I would not mind to give a short presentation on our experience and current work in this area.

Best regards

Michael Kjeldgaard

Hi Harm,

I have been exploring with folks in Government of Canada and Government of Ontario on the possibility of their presenting at the TC f2f meeting this month.
They are interested but have not made any final decisions yet. I wanted to let you know now of the possibility for planning purposes.

The proposed presentation would have the following outline:

-Overview of Pan-Canadian Registry /vision, goals/ -Role and functions of ebXML Registry in on-going Canadian Projects (Ontario Gateway, Secure Channel, eContact) -Demonstration of using ebXML Registry to manage CSDML Schemas (a vocabulary used within Government of Canada and Government of Ontario)

An overview of this work is mentioned in the recent OASIS ebXML Registry Webinar whose slides are at:

[14] OASIS ebXML Registry 3.0 Webinar 2005 Slides:
http://ebxmlrr.sourceforge.net/presentations/ebXML%20Registry%20webinar5.pdf

http://ebxmlrr.sourceforge.net/presentations/ebXML%20Registry%20webinar5.sxi

http://ebxmlrr.sourceforge.net/presentations/ebXML%20Registry%20webinar5.odp

http://ebxmlrr.sourceforge.net/presentations/ebXML%20Registry%20webinar5.ppt

My guess is that this would ideally need to be a 45 min presentation. I think it would be a valuable presentation and of interest to most participants because it shares practical experience with use of ebXML Registry in egov.

Do you think we can squeeze 45 minutes in our agenda for this? If so I will get a definitive commitment from the principals involved.
Let me know how you wish to proceed on this idea.

BTW, I will be attending parts of the meeting over the phone as I am unable to travel for this trip. My apology.

Farrukh
