Subject: RE: [egov] FW: Semantic Interoperability for E-Government Conference

Hello John

The egov list is one that I try to follow but unfortunately I do not have time to engage with it usually.

However, this thread reminds me that maybe the UN/CEFACT Core Component Library version 1.0 that is now available could really be interesting to governments as a major step towards greater semantic operability especially in the context of 'single windows' to government or 'one stop' access points to government.

We know that several key business standards organisations such as Rosettanet, OAGi, UBL, GS1, CIDX etc., some key s/w providers such as SAP and Oracle as well as several administrations such as WCO (World Customs Organisation) etc. have already indicated their interest or intention to adopt this approach and to reuse the UN/CEFACT CC Library.

For example, in the UK we are currently actively investigating the adoption of this UN/CEFACT CCTS (aka ISO 15000-5 and aka ebXML Core Components) approach.and the reuse of the UN/CEFACT CC Library by our International Trade Single Window project team.

regards

Sue
UN/CEFACT Forum Vice-Chair

Hello Peter,

Will try to get the word out sooner.  The Wikki referenced below will be updated at the conference to include the latest presentations.

Cheers,

John

Thanks for this but one remark (rant coming....)

OASIS is a global organisation: if there is stuff that is likely to be of interest for an audience beyond the US of A - as is the case with this conference - can you all please give a little more notice? There is no way I could get any travel order organised at such notice, however interested I am...

I'm sorry John that you catch this flak, but it's a general comment to the whole list.

I"d make one practical and hopefully helpful suggestion: whoever flags up a conference or event on the list should feel morally obliged to report back to the list after the event, at least with pointers to where documents and info might be found, if not with a more personal "report" on the activity.

All the best,

Peter
