Subject: Re: Feedback on Example Practices: CAP Elements WD09 document [SEC=UNCLASSIFIED]
UNCLASSIFIED
For EMA C&D SC and Tony Mancuso,
Not sure whether this email will get through the Kavi firewall to the EMA SC members as I am not on the SC roster, so I have CC’d to relevant members as a backup.
I have been reviewing the content of the “Example Practices: CAP Elements” WD09 document today, with the view of deciding what information should be considered for insertion into a future revision of the Australian CAP Profile (CAP-AU) document. I am responsible for revising the CAP-AU document over the next few months. The CAP Elements document version I am reviewing is from:
https://www.oasis-open.org/apps/org/workgroup/emergency-adopt-docs/document.php?document_id=48710
I have noted one issue so far in your CAP Elements document that the CAP Profiles Sub Committee decided was required in the CAP-AU Profile, regarding the use of the word “tag”.
The CAP Profiles SC highlighted during the development of the CAP-AU Profile in 2012 that in order to be consistent, the word “tag” or “field” should NOT be used interchangeably to describe a CAP “element”.
The CAP Profiles SC insisted that the CAP-AU Profile reflects a consistent use of “Element” to refer only to the four overarching sections of a CAP message (<alert>, <info>, <resource>, or <area> elements) or “Sub-element” to refer to all other parts of the CAP message sitting within each of the four Elements.
There are a number of instances in your CAP Elements document where “tag” is used when it should really be “Element” or “Sub-element” to be consistent with previous Profiles SC advice, so I wanted to highlight this Profiles SC issue to you for consideration.
