Subject: [emergency-adoption] RE: [Fwd: [emergency-adopt] Fwd: [ciq] Re:FW: [members] Identit Management 2009 | Call for Presentations Now Open]

Hi Dee,

Please don't think we don't appreciate you!

I'm aware of the ideal and I think it is more than worthy. I've seen
it work to a greater and lesser degree. I'm just trying to learn from
my experience and I've just come from the Connectivity Week event,
where we drew a small audience for several reasons. I think the
consensus from our group and the management group was that the
SmartGrid was the stronger draw aided by the fact that stimulus
package targets that area. Plus we did not have enough of our group
working the crowd.

The point is that it was my experience with Connectivity Week that
sensitized me to the possibility of lessening the audience for both
of our events. I'm just one of the blind trying to figure out what
elephant is from the part of it I can sense.

I think we need to see if we can get as much marketing help as we
can. My own background is in advertising and the fact that I got out
of it speaks volumes about how I feel about marketing. But, it does
have value when kept in its place.

We need to do that as well as stimulating cross-pollination.

In fact, it was the necessity for our speakers, who were from the EM
TC, to use the opportunity for some TC discussions which prevented us
from working the crowd. This is something we have found before where
we need to wear different hats in short, concentrated time periods.
Likewise, OASIS support staff are also almost always stretched thin,
and sure don't want you all to think that we don't appreciate, and
NEED, your efforts very, very much.

It's a difficult set of tasks, and sometimes the best we can do is
learn from our experience.

Of course, as a friend (one of my few personal support staff ;-))
says, "Experience is what you get ten minutes after you needed it."

Cheers,
Rex
