o HHS Announces $80 Million in Grants for Health IT Training 

Washington, DC -- The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on
Tuesday announced $80 million in new stimulus grants designed to help
develop and strengthen the nation's health IT workforce. The grants include
$70 million for community college training programs and $10 million for
related educational materials. The agency said that the programs are
designed to help fill an immediate need for skilled health IT workers.
"Ensuring the adoption of electronic health records, information exchange
among health care providers and public health authorities, and redesign of
workflows within health care settings all depend on having a qualified pool
of workers," said David Blumenthal, HHS's national coordinator for health
IT.
