Here is what I see...

OASIS coordinating some educational, evangelical, and adoption oriented work in some sessions at Connectivity Week in June in Santa Clara (www.connectivityweek.com). Some of you know that the first real injection of BIM approaches, including a BIMstorm, will also be at that event. To me, the potential for cross pollination / cross adoption between

¡P         Transacted Energy / Building Systems

¡P         Service Oriented Energy / Service Oriented Buildings Tenant Service Awareness / Liability Management / Emergency Response Situation Awareness Building Services / Performance Oriented Construction BIM

It’s a natural alignment.

There may be some sort of introductory material on OASIS-based standards and approaches pre-conference (Monday): SOA, Security and ER are all possibilities.

Tuesday introduces a lot of BIM in the plenary, which will strengthen the EM track.

Wednesday has a cyber security track run by the power grid guys, so we are avoiding that day (although I'm sure that are looking for panelists).

Thursday is our target for some EM-centric activity

Tuesday June 9, 2009 – Profiles & Energy

Session Overview

Devices Discovery and Device profiles are essential to networked computing.  Device Discovery lets you find all devices on a network. Device Profiles let you discover what services and performance each system can deliver. This track will explore how these approaches are being applied to engineered systems and transacted energy.

Session 1: Discovery and Profiles

Recent OASIS work has produced a standard for web service based discovery and profiles. (WS-DD, WS-DP, and SOAP over UDP) Committee members are already contemplating discoverable profiles for switchgear and other engineered systems. In this session, committee members from industry leaders will discuss the new standards and how to develop around them.

Session 2: The Greening of IT

Data Centers are among the largest energy users in every enterprise. System operators have long used IT standards to manage all of their systems from a single console. Data centers metrics are based upon business service levels, not machine performance. This session will describe efforts to bring building systems and rid reliability and price into this business framework.

Session 3: Profiles in Energy

The wonderful thing about standards is that there are so many of them. This truism certainly applies to energy profiles. The Zigbee Energy Alliance, Cisco’s EnergyWise, IBM’s Smarter Planet, and ASHRAE’s BACnet have all developed Energy profiles in recent years. In this session, presenters will compare and contrast energy profiles and discuss the prospects for convergence.

Thursday, June 11: Emergency Management

Emergency messaging builds situation awareness. Emergency messaging is no longer limited to one way communications from dispatcher to responder; it now encompasses security companies, building systems, and perhaps even the smarty grid. Two-way Communications between building and responder ad elements of spatial awareness and security.

Session 1: Incident Preparedness and Response Emergency response messages are of growing importance in today’s world. EDXL extends beyond emergency alerts into business processes and into two way communications with building systems. Leaders from the OASIS Emergency Management Communications group will discuss these emerging standards.

Session 2: Situation Awareness in Space

One of the challenges in any emergency is understanding the space in which the problem is occurring.  Building systems and energy supplies can offer telemetry for any situation. This session explores standards-based solutions for spatial awareness in emergency scenarios. Panelists will present datacenter, cloud and open-source web-based approaches to space, floor plans, and emergency telemetry.

Session 3: I have no idea as of yet

Toby, Bill,

Can you join the EM Adoption SC call today at 12pm EST? (see below)

In addition to the SC discussing a fall workshop hosted by DHS, we would also like for you to explain to other SC members about plans for Connectivity Week.

According to Mary McRae's email yesterday, in order to SPEAK to the EM Adoption SC, you would need to join the Emergency Management TC as a Member, approve your join request, then join the EM Adoption SC as a Member.
