Subject: Re: [emergency-cap] Powerpoint slide for CAP Workshop

Hi Everyone,

As promised for further discussion at next meeting. I have attached a ppt slide to see what it could look like.

What are the uses of Multiple <info> Blocks?

  • Multiple languages,
  • Multiple geographic areas
  • Multiple timing
  • Multiple severities
  • Combinations
    • Changing paths/expiration of weather--tornadoes;
    • Different severity and instruction per area--severity zones--tsunami
    • Protective Action Zone Recommendations for toxic/ hazardous releases--shelter in place v. evacuation--where speed of alerting is imperative
Cheers,

Rex

Listing the ways Multiple Info blocks can be used to divide the story for audiences is understood for the most part. So the real question is whether this gets done in one CAP message or several. That goes more to the “business model” of the CAP recipients as to whether they actively assess the message for relevance or not, and subsequently make decisions on whether to present the information based on that assessment.

To accommodate those that do not assess, means to create additional overhead to those that do, Those that service multiple audiences with multiple presentations are now required to track and reconcile many more CAP messages to do so.  Therefore, I see no issue in originators using multiple info blocks for those recipients, and if other recipients only want single info blocks, then a middleman should be found to modify the CAP messages for that use on their behalf (delete what is not relevant for them).

With this, as an originator, I can get my full story our to all my intended audiences in one CAP message without having to run a separate CAP services for a variety of recipients and their pretences. The nice thing about the CAP Standard is that it allows me that option.

Hi Everyone,

Here are the bullet points so far for the slide to use to gaining feedback on the issue of multile info blocks in CAP in the CAP Workshop.

  • What are the uses of Multiple Info Blocks?
    • Multiple languages,
    • Multiple Geographic areas (such as changing paths/expiration of severe storms per area—tornadoes; Protective Action Recommendation per geozone for toxic/hazardous releases—shelter in place v. evacuation--where speed of alerting is imperative)
    • please replace this bullet with more multiple info block usages

Cheers,
Rex
