For an an example Thesaurus you might like to poke around in Thesaurus for Graphic Materials I: Subject Terms. ISO 25964 is the international standard for thesauri, although I suppose that's useful mainly as a compatibility constraint on whatever tool one uses for maintaining a thesaurus.

It turns out that Ian Ibbotson, a long-time colleague now helping develop the Filtered Alert Hub, is an expert on this stuff and his company, Knowledge Integration Ltd, is very highly respected. If and when we need a thesaurus management tool, let's start by asking for advice from Ian.
