Subject: Community Resilience Workshop - Priority Data and Information Needs, October 25-26, 2018

Dear Resilience Colleague,

Local decision makers face many challenges as they plan and implement actions to improve the resilience of their communities -- and they need data, information, and tools.

You are invited to take part in an interactive workshop on October 25-26, 2018, sponsored by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and the Center for Risk-Based Resilience Planning, with guidance from local officials and national organizations. Community representatives will share their experiences and recommend specific, priority needs for the top types of community resilience-related data, information, and tools need by decision makers in communities across the nation.

The workshop will be organized around three tracks and include plenary and working breakout sessions:

  • Session 1: How Communities Characterize Themselves, Set Goals, & Make Decisions
  • Session 2: The Gap Between Current and Desired Performance of the Community’s Built Environment
  • Session 3: Community Resilience Priorities and Solutions

Representatives of cities, counties, regional bodies, and states will share their experiences and recommend specific needs. Participants will include Federal agencies, universities, non-profits, and the private sector.  Outcomes of the workshop will be used to develop tools and guidance that facilitate decision-making.

Please respond to resilience@nist.gov  by close of business on Wednesday, August 29th to let us know if you will be able to join us at this workshop. A registration link and webpage with a full agenda will be available soon.

Limited travel funds are available. If you require travel support, please contact David Mizzen at dmizzen@ara.com

Sincerely,

Dr. Therese McAllister

Mr. Steve Cauffman
