We decided in our meeting yesterday that we would continue with our plans to have a pre-conference training session at the IAEM Nov 12. Our session is set for Saturday from 9-5 and will include a provided lunch.

I have asked the staff at IAEM how we can do a strong outreach to the community and will let you know when I hear back. The OASIS Emergency Member Section is providing funds for a booth and this preconference session. We do not have many people registered yet but need to get more folks here. We also need to develop the full agenda. I would like to include an overview of the EMTC work (me), overview of CAP (Jacob), perhaps an update from NWS (Mike) to discuss 10 years of WEA and the lessons learned then get into the details of the technology supporting WEA.

Abstract for Mobile Alerting Practices-rbedit 4 IAEM
What is Mobile Alerting?
Alerting the Public through their personal devices reaches 90 percent of the targeted population in a direct personal way within about 7 seconds. Using a device normally within armâs reach from them puts possibly life-saving alerts in their hands in the quickest way possible today.
The owner buys this device, charges it every night and promptly repairs any faults all at their own expense. Visitors to the country also bring their own personal devices with them, but to ensure that they work as intended, sufficient standardization that works reliably across boundaries is needed.
However, reaching such devices requires the mobile network to which they are currently attached. This, in turn depends on their current location. Very complex Mobility Management Technology is needed to facilitate this, but it does enable the user to roam freely all over the world with their device. This fact is what defines a Mobile Network as opposed to the fixed network and accordingly defines âMobileâ Alerting Practices.Â
