benefits of EDXL-DE

Hello,
My name is Eric Jahn, and I maintain a homeless persons data standard
for the US Dept. of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) called Homeless
Management Information Systems (HMIS) XML, currently at version 2.8.  We
are working on adopting a messaging framework for this XML, and are
looking at making it EDXL-DE compatible, since disasters both involve
and create new homeless individuals, which are tracked by community HMIS
systems in existence throught the US.  What would be the benefits to
using EDXL-DE and making HMIS yet another payload for EDXL-DE? Also,
what significant hurdles would be required for HMIS XML to become
transportable via EDXL-DE?  Thanks!
