Subject: HAVE response to Hurricane Sandy

All--

I was contacted today by David Black of the University of Toronto and Crisis Commons about supporting Hurricane Sandy response coordination.

They had a phone call last night with Stacey Elmer, Director of Incident Management at the White House, and Brian Forde, Senior Advisor to the CTO, Executive Office of the President.  They expressed a specific need for and asked if Crisis Commons could create an inventory/status report of hospitals and long-term care facilities in NYC and the region.

We are going to be standing up an instance of Sahana Eden for their use - based on the EDXL-HAVE 1.0 spec (up soon at http://sandy.sahanafoundation.org)

One challenge will be in mining the data from various sources - mostly local jurisdiction EOCs, which are going to have data on location and status of the hospitals and medical facilities within their jurisdiction.  Do any of you know of any existing sources of data being used in the Sandy response that we might be able to direct them to and pull from in order to help provide a consolidated operational picture?

Best regards,
Mark
