Subject: [OASIS Issue Tracker] Commented: (EMFW-20) DE 2.0 Allow XML Comments

    [ http://tools.oasis-open.org/issues/browse/EMFW-20?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=29687#action_29687 ]

Martena Gooch commented on EMFW-20:
-----------------------------------

Should the DE specification attempt to enforce the preservation of XML comments?

Answer: The DE specification is appropriately silent on the use of XML comments. As with traditional XML usage, comments can be used but preservation of comments is not an XML requirement. For example, some parsers and applications of signature usage do not preserve comments. Also the use of comments for substantive purposes is non-standard and should be discouraged.

> In addition to preserving ordering, I would like that XML comments be explicitly allowed (and their ordering with respect to elements preserved), viz:
> Systems whose primary role is to store-and-forward messages MUST preserve XML comments.
> It is RECOMMENDED that all systems that can store-and-forward messages preserve XML comments.
> Systems that generate and/or consume messages MAY provide means for the user to respectively add and view comments.
