Subject: Re: [emergency-rim] Reminder: Meeting Today
Thanks Lew, I appreciate it. This will work out fine for that community of interest. Cheers, Rex On 3/8/2012 12:57 PM, Leinenweber, Lewis wrote:
Rex, I will work to assemble relevant materials for this area from OGC and related sources. By the way, I will be attending the OGC's Technical Committee meeting the week of 19-23 Mar where many of the key contributors for these efforts in the past and on-going (CityGML in particular) will be meeting face-to-face to conduct the business of their specification and domain working groups. I will try to get a refresh on work in progress and future of plans for new or enhanced standards, etc. Regards, Lew Leinenweber SE Solutions, Inc. 301.351.4485 -----Original Message----- From: Rex Brooks [mailto:rex.brooks@ncoic.org] Sent: Thu, 08 Mar 2012 12:58 PM To: Leinenweber, Lewis Cc: rex.brooks@ncoic.org; emergency-rim@lists.oasis-open.org Subject: Re: [emergency-rim] Reminder: Meeting Today Thanks Lew, Personally, I have worked on this with several groups, specifically attempting to put together a standards effort to develop an Open Floor Plan Display/Exchange (OFPD/X) which has limped along till now, so I am aware of these resources. However, I think that if you could think about taking on this area with an eye toward compiling the most important or significant available material, I will certainly include it in the ValueList Ontologies I'm compiling. I will be buried in RM for some time to come, then I'll be takingon the FEMA Resource Typing material, so if you could take on this domain, particularly CityGML, it would be really great. I actually came into Human-based standards from the old VRML Consortium, now the X3D Consortium, so I'm familiar with cartesian coordinate 3D systems. However, I thought I would share some thoughts about work that relates to your message below with respect to "... the evolving domain of the built-environment, e.g. interior spaces, and the transition/interface from Geospatial to Building-specific information." You might find it interesting to know that OGC has been working on to solve similar issues and to create standards to address the built-environment through their CityGML standards work. This efforthasincluded collaboration with Architecture and Engineering community in 2005 and even earlier to integrate with the Building Information Model (BIM) standards that carries very detail information about the construction of buildings, down to the lowest level of detailsrequiredfor design and construction. This collaboration has been demonstrated whereby geographic information has been brought together with CADmodeldata to produce a detailed 3-dimensional view that transitions from geospatial 3-D (geographic locations and CityGML 3-D structures to building interiors. I can provide some additional information, resources and discussion to follow-up later if there is interest. Even thoughIhaven't had time to complete the next stage in the ValueList Ontology, we can continue our conversations on the merits of various kinds of ontologies, and I can relate how this effort reflects a number ofotherapplications and capabilities being explored in NCOIC and locally intheFEMA Grant work for Marin County Fire.Chiefs Association. The factthatis that our work needs to extend over a wider domain that includesas-isdata that conforms to no specific categorization or classification schemes. This is the same issue that affects the evolving domain of the built-environment, e.g. interior spaces, and the transition/interface from Geospatial to Building-specific information. This is not a domain that any one group from the Contractors and Architects community to Real Estate Owner/Operators to Emergency Management is going to provide the end-all be-all standard. In fact, this is a direct challenge to our ValueList and Supporting Elements structure. Cheers, Rex
