Subject: EU Tactical Situation Object

Hi Everyone,

I wanted to draw your attention to some information resources about the
European Union's "Open Advanced System for dISaster & emergency
management" (yup, OASIS), http://www.oasis-fp6.org/ and its Tactical
Situation Object (TSO) http://www.tacticalsituationobject.org/

I have found a couple of documents which detail this specification:
http://www.sisostds.org/index.php?tg=fileman&idx=get&id=2&gr=Y&path=Simulation+Interoperability+Workshops%2F2008+Fall+SIW&file=08S-SIW-018.pdf
<http://www.sisostds.org/index.php?tg=fileman&idx=get&id=2&gr=Y&path=Simulation+Interoperability+Workshops%2F2008+Fall+SIW&file=08S-SIW-018.pdf>

and
http://www.oasis-fp6.org/documents/OASIS_TA21_DDD_041_DSF_1_4_pub.pdf

If you have trouble getting through, I can either post the documents to
our repository as resources or send them as attachments. Note that the
first of these documents refers to the EU OASIS project as Open Advanced
System for CrisIS Management (OASIS). As the publication date (Spring
Interoperability Workshop 2008 Providence, Rhode Island) and the fact
that it has a University of Virginia co-author, shows, this whole
project and the TSO itself, is not a recent effort. Too bad we didn't
hear about it sooner, but that's life.

Regardless, I think we should explore it and perhaps even make the whole
dual OASIS situation more interesting by adopting it ourselves if it
fits into our set of standards.

Of course, we have a lot of study to do first, but this has now come up
in the final review of the NCOIC All Hazards Alert and Warning (AHAW)
Capabilities Pattern in the Net-Enabled Emergency Response Integrated
Project Team (NEER-IPT), so I will be investigating it further and will
almost certainly incorporate it into the AHAW pattern.

Cheers,
Rex
