Subject: Re: [emix] Groups - Transactional Energy Elements DRAFT - 2.pdf uploaded

Hi Ed,

I read through draft-2 and your other submission to FERC, and reviewed the meeting notes.  Here are some comments/questions I still have that hopefully will produce clarifications that will be helpful to others as well:

- Footnote 2 (page 1):
Is the Interval in that first example 1 hour (will deliver 1 kW/hour)?  Or is the Interval 24 hours?

- General: You say this model reduces the need for ancillary services.   Does that include services related to quality/reliability?

- Line 88: you mention that collateral is 'beyond scope', but then say that collateral is 'a critical element of the TEM'.   That seems a bit contradictory.  If it's critical, where/how would collateral information be captured/communicated if not in scope for EI/EMIX?

- Table 1:

-- Extended Price:
There is 'Interval' and 'Rate of Delivery', but when I try to construct an equation I find I'm missing a variable for the right-hand side that has $ as a unit.  Wouldn't it be the sum of all the Price * Rate * Interval, ie. ($/unit * unit/time * time)?  If so, then should the description include a reference to 'Price'?
-- Extended Price, 'average':
The description of 'average' price uses the term 'duration of the Interval' as opposed to simply 'Interval'.  If an 'Interval' is an hour, how is  'duration of the Interval' different?

- Table 2:
-- If in practice the 'Offer' comes before the 'Transaction', perhaps put Table 2 first, Table 1 second?
-- 'Rate of Delivery':  here again, 'duration of the Interval' might be redundant and could just say 'Interval'?  As I understood it,   Interval is already a duration of time.  And a contract would be a series of Intervals (for a specified duration ;))?  This may be a general terminology issue since we haven't really settled on or clearly defined that terminology in EMIX yet.

- Tables 1 and 2: Is 'Interval' an offset from a start time, or is it specified as real time (as in UTC)?

- Tables 3 and 4: Why do these models specify a 'Maximum' Rate of Delivery, but the other two info models (Tables 1 and 2) simply the 'Rate of Delivery'?

Thanks for any time you might be able to give to these questions.

Best Regards,
Anne

The document revision named Transactional Energy Elements DRAFT - 2.pdf has
been submitted by Edward Cazalet to the OASIS Energy Market Information
Exchange (eMIX) TC document repository.  This document is revision #1 of
Transactional Energy Elements.pdf.

Document Description:
This document was recently submitted to Energy Interop to support
transactional energy. Transactional energy uses simple price/quantity
offers and transactions among the parties to achieve coordinated economic
operation of the grid.

I am also submitting this document to EMIX as an example (use case) for our
EMIX Information Model.

I have used the current EMIX Information Model as much as possible, but
made some modifications I found necessary or useful.  We may want to take
some of these into the EMIX Information model.

The transactional information model in this paper provides a basic
information model for retail dynamic pricing, and wholesale trading.
Energy transactions at any level of interval detail ( years, months, days,
hours, minutes or seconds ) can be supported.  Call and put options are
supported both as hedging options for retail and wholesale transactions as
well as for ancillary service and capacity products.  I think the elements
could also be part of transactions with Independent System Operator
markets.
