Subject: Horst/Cazalet Discussion on Transactional Energy

Below is a discussion that Gale and I had on Transactional Energy that may
be helpful to others.

Subject: RE: Transactional Energy White Paper Draft 004.pdf

Ed:

A couple of thoughs I wanted to mention. I read this white paper and
agree with the description and way the content was clearly presented.
Your main diagram (figure 1) visualizes the concept well. I think the
tie between what you called transactional energy and the REC-VEN concept
is perhaps cloaser yet than what you indicated to the extent that you
could refer to it as a related approach or even a supporting approach in
lieu of an alternative approach. The intent of my white paper was not to
limit the content to the vertical utility. In the coverage of my white
paper by Jesse Berst, he quickly identifed it as a description of
Transactional Energy.

The examples in the REC-VEN paper related to devices and I wanted to
pave the way to discussing how we can enable independent product
development. However it also was intended to cover what you described
as "large generator, distributed energy resource (DER), variable energy
resource such as wind or solar, large industrial customer, home,
electric vehicle, microgrid, energy trader, broker, exchange ,
aggregator, or system operator." ... and also ... "Transactions can
occur between retail and wholesale markets and between wholesale
markets. Transactional Energy equalizes the opportunity for every
technology and every participant on the grid including participants
within a microgrid."

Perhaps "transctional energy" builds on the concept by adding the
element of support for transactions involving price offers? (and
perhsps other things as well?)

Thanks,
Gale
