Abstract
Energy interoperation describes an information model and a communication model to enable collaborative and transactive use of energy, service definitions consistent with the OASIS SOA Reference Model, and XML vocabularies for the interoperable and standard exchange of:

• Dynamic price signals
• Reliability signals
• Emergency signals
• Communication of market participation information such as bids
• Load predictability and generation information

This work facilitates enterprise interaction with energy markets, which:

• Allows effective response to emergency and reliability events
• Allows taking advantage of lower energy costs by deferring or accelerating usage,
• Enables trading of curtailment and generation,
• Supports symmetry of interaction between providers and consumers of energy,
• Provides for aggregation of provision, curtailment, and use,

The definition of a price and of reliability information depends on the market context in which it exists. It is not in scope for this TC to define specifications for markets or for pricing models, but the TC will coordinate with others to ensure that commonly used market and pricing models are supported.

While this specification uses Web Services to describe the services, no requirement or expectation of specific messaging implementation is assumed.
TC Description
This work was done in part to meet the requirements of the NIST SMart Grid Roadmap Priority Action Plan 09 (PAP09), a standard for model for signals to coordinate Demand Response (DR) and Distributed Energy Resources (DER).

Notes
This specification will be discussed at the meeting of the SGIP the fuirst week of December in Chicago. If you plan to be there, you should readt this document first.

Energy Interoperation relies on the OASIS EMIX Specification for communication of price and product defintion. Energy Market Information Exchange (EMIX) Version 1.0 is currently out for public review.

Price and product definition are actionable information. When presented with standard messages conveying price and product, automated systems can make decisions to optimize energy and economic results. In regulated electricity markets, price and products often are defined by complex tariffs, derived through political processes. EMIX defines the information for use in messages that convey this actionable information. An essential distinction between energy and other markets is that price is strongly influenced by time of delivery. EMIX conveys time and interval by incorporating WS-Calendar into tenders, contracts, and performance calls.

The public review of EMIX ends 17 December 2010. We strongly encourage feedback from potential users, developers and others, whether OASIS members or not, for the sake of improving the interoperability and quality of OASIS work. EMIX was prepared in response the the NIST SMart Grid Roadmap and the Smart Grid Interoperability Panel (SGIP) Prioirity Action Plan 03 (PAP03). It is based upon WS-Calendar for the common communication of time and schedule (PAP04) and is used extensively in Energy Interoperation (PAP09).

Reviewers of Energy Interoperation may also want to comment upon EMIX.

Thank you for your request. We will schedule the review shortly. You can follow the progress at:
