Subject: RE: [energyinterop] FW: [emix] Non-interval information and tariffs and SEP
There is no “where am I now”
in the tiered price message. That is handled elsewhere. We also settled the
interval issues yesterday as well. It is simply pairs of start end date times. As a matter of priority: dealing with the
Tiered Tariff price message should not set back the delivery of a public review
draft of EI by even five minutes. We can deal with any open issues on this
specific message during the EI public review period. Bruce
Bartell Xtensible Solutions From: Considine, Toby
(Campus Services IT) [mailto:Toby.Considine@unc.edu] This stuff dances on the edge between
Energy Interop and EMIX. Much of it feels like Energy Interop, but if EMIX *MUST* (whatever that means) support SEP
Tariff Models, then it belongs there and might be used here… Just sharing. tc "It is the theory
that decides what can be observed." - Albert Einstein
From: Toby Considine
[mailto:tobyconsidine@gmail.com] On Behalf Of
Toby Considine A
significant issue that was highlighted in the SEP conversations was
communications about parts of the price that are, essentially, out of band for
EMIX as we have discussed it. Examples of this are: Tiers and Accumulation: Let’s posit
two tiers at night, 3 tiers during the day. Over the course of a [month], a
customer’s usage floats up, reaching up to Tier 2 during the day, and
then Tier 3 during the day, and finally, tier 2 at night. -
Straightforward to communicate
tier structure for the next 24 hours with existing structures (Interval with 2
tiers 12:00 – 8:00, Interval with 3 tiers 8:00 to 6:00, Interval with 2
tiers 6:00 to 12:00) -
Could add more intervals
to describe the next week. -
Etc. Harder
to do: Tell customer where he is in the float. This requires knowledge of three
facts: When period began, when it ends, what the current level is. Current
float determines what today’s *actual* prices are (although one could
argue that is the responsibility of the house) (although with 3 power hits this
morning before 9:00 as Progress prepares for another 90 degree day, my home may
forget and need to ask). Begin date matters. “I did that in 3
days?”. End date matters “I have to hold out for how long?) Accumulation
is easy enough to communicate (Interval, begin, end, current level and
datestamp). But where does it belong? Not in the product, not in each Interval.
Is it in effect a Term, that can optionally be dropped in the list of terms? Is
it a Hint to be dropped in the optional array of Hints? Is it wholly in Energy
Interop, and therefore of no interest to Emix? Note:
Accumulations could be 10 minutes, daily, weekly, monthly, annual, does not
matter. Demand Charges. If we come up with a place
(Terms, Hints, … ) to hold Accumulation in EMIX, should demand charges
move there? Recommended Peak Use. SEP construct to
indicate ‘might not be a good time to fast charge…”. An
uneconomic concept if ever there was one. Does not appear to have any
penalties. This one is clearly tied to a particular interval. “The
single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken
place.”
