Subject: HM.domains-Human Meaningful Text-Semantics
Hi Everyone, In the on-going effort to elicit responses for our core topics as head into our first TC Meeting Sept. 17, I'm going to offer a thread on HM.domains. I haven't gotten completely through Mark Brownell's Meaningful Text Markup Language work, but I have gotten far enough to see that one of our most important domains is a significant subset of that work, namely the categorization of text into Human Meaningful areas. Specifically, I would like to suggest that, since our efforts coincide with the concurrent work being conducted on a framework for a Semantic Web, that we face a decision on how we want to demarcate our use of the term Semantics for HumanMarkup purposes, and what the subcategories within this larger category ought to be. I suspect that we are going to see a bit of frustration and confusion as we proceed, so heads up. I suggest that as a starting point we consider that, in order to provide for quick topic map searches, and increase the efficiency of use for our fledgling language, we try to break down these categories into functional, rather than logical or philosophically consistent categories. I'm sure Wittgenstein would understand and not be the least offended if we don't start from first principles, since we are likely to derive them. The goal would be to have textual communications available readily based on these Human Meaningful Categories, from Medical Histories of Adult Onset Diabetes to examples of Maladaptive Responses in Conflict Resolution. Have fun. Ciao, Rex -- Rex Brooks GeoAddress: 1361-A Addison, Berkeley, CA, 94702 USA, Earth W3Address: http://www.starbourne.com Email: rexb@starbourne.com Tel: 510-849-2309 Fax: By Request
