Subject: Re: Re: [humanmarkup-comment] Domains vs. Frameworks/Taxonomies
Just wanted to get our terminology straightened out here, before we plunge back into the thick of things... I. <rex> Domains=text, voice, multimedia, etc Applications Domains=VR, Physical Description, Messaging, Email, etc. You could call Applications Domains something else, if it helps, like Applications Areas...<snip/> </rex> Ok, these make sense to me...I would prefer "application areas" as you offered as an alternate suggestion, because we don't want any confusion between "domains" and "application domains". If you have a better suggestion, please post immediately (before we solidify our terms.) http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/humanmarkup/documents/HM.applications.t xt II. <rex> Frameworks are the overall Ontologies that all the taxonomies stem from. Epistemology is a framework, Aristotelian Syllogisms is amember of the framework. Language is a framework, English a member. </rex> What I've listed under frameworks is somewhat different than your definition here...it is a somewhat different way of breaking down the same information...do you have any suggestions how could (or even should) resolve these different breakdowns? http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/humanmarkup/documents/HM.frameworks.txt Ranjeeth Kumar Thunga ----- Original Message ----- From: "Rex Brooks" <rexb@starbourne.com> To: "Ranjeeth Kumar Thunga" <rkthunga@interposting.com> Sent: Friday, October 26, 2001 4:59 PM Subject: Re: Re: [humanmarkup-comment] Domains vs. Frameworks/Taxonomies > I also think of any display panel as a board, then there are boards > of directors, and bored of the rings. > > Just thought I'd add in the pun. > Rex > > >We can tell a lot about the era we're each coming from, based on the > >vocabulary we use...;-) > > > >RKT > > > >----- Original Message ----- > >From: "Rex Brooks" <rexb@starbourne.com> > >To: <humanmarkup@lists.oasis-open.org>; > ><humanmarkup-comment@lists.oasis-open.org> > >Sent: Friday, October 26, 2001 3:49 PM > >Subject: Fwd: Re: [humanmarkup-comment] Domains vs. Frameworks/Taxonomies > > > > > >> I am assuming that by board, with the lists being like a bulletin > >> board, this is what Ranjeeth means, in which case, sure and done. > >> > >> Ciao. > >> Rex > >> > >> >X-From_: rkthunga@humanmarkup.org Fri Oct 26 09:36:30 2001 > >> >From: "Ranjeeth Kumar Thunga" <rkthunga@humanmarkup.org> > >> >To: "Rex Brooks" <rexb@starbourne.com> > >> >Subject: Re: [humanmarkup-comment] Domains vs. Frameworks/Taxonomies > >> >Date: Fri, 26 Oct 2001 12:46:03 -0400 > >> >X-Priority: 3 > >> > > >> >Hi Rex, > >> > > >> >I wanted to ask you if you could post to this to the board. > >> >Thanks! > >> > > >> >Ranjeeth Kumar > >> > > >> >----- Original Message ----- > >> >From: "Rex Brooks" <rexb@starbourne.com> > >> >To: "Ranjeeth Kumar Thunga" <rkthunga@humanmarkup.org> > >> >Sent: Wednesday, October 24, 2001 7:41 PM > >> >Subject: Re: [humanmarkup-comment] Domains vs. Frameworks/Taxonomies > >> > > >> > > >> >> Domains=text, voice, multimedia, etc > >> >> Applications Domains=VR, Physical Description, Messaging, Email, etc. > >> >> Exactly as you have it. > >> >> > >> >> Both have taxonomies. You could call Applications Domains something > >> >> else, if it helps, like Applications Areas, but overused terms are a > >> >> pain, eh? > >> >> > >> >> Frameworks are the overall Ontologies that all the taxonomies stem > >> >> from.
