Subject: RE: [humanmarkup-comment] RE: TC: meeting: 8/21/02: agenda notes
I'll be there for at least part of the meeting. I've been reviewing my notes on the Gudwin model and semiotics. Sylvia and I talked a bit on the phone last week about the semiote and some issues on the markup draft for the signs element Referents are instances of the concept, Sylvia. For example, in a sign for a bend in the road, the referent is the actual bend in the road. So for example, one might create a set of signs for human gestures which include photos of such gestures. The photos would not be referents but representations (signifiers?). One problem with the semiotic literature is that being based on the papers of Peirce, some of the original language is Victorian and a little difficult to grok. (where anyone without Heinlein reading experience has problems with "grok"). len -----Original Message----- From: Rex Brooks [mailto:rexb@starbourne.com] Hi Len, We can make that an agenda item in today's meeting.
