Thanks, Rob,

It's good to start the week off on a positive note of work accomplished and in progress.

Ciao,
Rex

HumanML
VR_AI (Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence): Subcommittee
Chair – Rob Nixon
Mission Statement:
A) Virtual Reality Group  - Coordinator ( Rex Brooks )
To provide a common rich medium for the exchange of physiological, emotional, behavioral attributes within VR, including interactions between VR and the outside world.   The exchange of social-role attributes within specific relationships should be implicit within the HumanML specification. This includes all interactions of Human-Human, human-machine, and machine-machine Avatar exchanges.  The ultimate goal is to strive for accuracy, believability, and extensibility in the exchange of human physiological characteristics, emotions, behaviors, and social interactions, regardless of the nature of the venue.
B) Artificial Intelligence Group – Coordinator ( Rob Nixon )
To identify those techniques within the realm of Artificial Intelligence (AI) that will benefit from the inclusion of a common medium specification of communication regarding inter-intelligent agent, as well as that of intelligent agent - human controlled Avatars within a Virtual Reality Environment.  HumanML must provide for the communication of a rich set of virtual characteristics, behaviors, and emotional states.
Scope:
The scope of the committee’s work includes the application of HumanML within Virtual Reality and Artificial Intelligence as independent domains, as well as the overlap of the two domains.

Goals and Action:

Goal 1: To perform an in depth overview of existing standards, common practices, and literature related to Virtual Reality (VR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) with application to HumanML

Goal 2: To establish guidelines for the use of  Human Markup Language (HumanML) in relation to VR and AI.
Goal 3: To define forms and standard methodologies for development, programming, and         collaborations involving VR and AI applications of HumanML

Goal 4: To ensure all VR and AI related utilization of HumanML conforms to HumanMarkup Specifications

Goal 5: To ensure that HumanML will provide a robust, flexible, and extensible specification for applications involving VR and AI.
Goal 6: To act as common resource and provide support for the VR and AI Communities utilization of HumanML.

Action: Coordinators will actively seek the support of the various researchers within the communities to assure that the HumanML specifications will provide the necessary structure for VR and AI applications.

Organizational Structure:
 ( VR Group )
Rex Brooks  - Primary Coordinator, Rob Nixon  – Backup Coordinator
 ( AI Group )
Rob Nixon  - Primary Coordinator, Rex Brooks – Backup Coordinator
Examples:
Game Theory and Temporal Logic are but two of  a number of AI related techniques that are used to model the human-like ability to learn and formulate heuristically sound decisions.  Attributes transmitted between actors (Human or machine VR stand-ins) via HumanML, can act as context tags in an Associative Database.  Intelligent Agents (aka Bots) are      programmed, active objects,  that can represent themselves as an avatar in a VR world, or as another type of referent in other modalities (non VR, i.e. text, 2D, audio, etc.).   The bots communication skills (based on all the available HumanML attributes) could be so convincing that human users may not realize that they are interacting with a program.

Deliverables
        ------------

VR specific HM document ( HM.VR ) – Outlines HumanML VR specification.
AI specific HM document ( HM.AI ) – Outlines HumanML AI specification.
VR_AI specific HM document ( HM.VR_AI) – Outlines HumanML VR_AI interaction specification.
