other updates to the TC website.

Roll Call:
Voting Members:
Henrik Brameus (briefly by Yahoo IM)
Ranjeeth Kumar Thunga
Rex Brooks
Kurt Cagle
Rob Nixon
Invited Expert:
Len Bullard
Minutes taken by TC Secretary Rex Brooks
Meeting convened12:10 p.m. Eastern Time
This meeting was very brief.
Henrik informed us that he
would be unable to continue his membership and we invited him to
return when or if he can devote the time and attention to
it.
Ranjeeth had two agenda
items: 1) Review liaison with OASIS Web Services for Interactive
Applications TC; and 2) Clarify the role of Humanmarkup.org,
Inc.
1) Rex Brooks joined the Web Services for Interactive Applications TC
by official request and attending the first face to face meetings held
at IBM's Watson Reserach Center in Hawthorne, New York Jan. 7-9,
2002.
Rex reviewed the proceedings of the meetings of the WSIA TC, which
formalized its new name, changing from the originally posted as Web
Services Component Model TC to Web Services for Interactive
Applications in order to clarify its focus on facilitating the
delivery of Web Services through the chain of intermediaries from
service source to end user interface.
Rex explained that in essence the liaison effort is a way for the
OASIS HumanMarkup TC to synchronize its efforts with this closely
related effort and to use the contacts in the WSIA TC to help gather
requirements for HumanMarkup TC, which is due March 15, 2002, as
decided without dissent from December's HumanMarkup TC meeting.
2) Ranjeeth explained that the non-profit corporation that he, Joseph
Norris, and Rex Brooks have established, named Humanmarkup.org, Inc.
has refocused its efforts upon supporting the work of the OASIS
HumanMarkup TC, more than attempting to develop applications of the
Human Markup Language Specification. This clarification was based on
recent meetings of that organization separate from the HumanMarkup TC,
and it was felt that this needed to be public knowledge.
After reviewing these agenda items, the meeting turned to new business
issues and discussion.
Len Bullard suggested that it was important to keep the progress of
the HumanMarkup TC moving forward in a more concentrated way, and it
was decided, subject to any discussion or vote of the TC list, that
the HumanMarkup TC will move directly from receiving the submissions
of requirements from application areas as of March 15, 2002, to
writing the formal Requirements Document by April 1, 2002, for
immediate adoption in the April HumanMarkup TC meeting.
(Note: This coincides with the same timeframe that the WSIA is using
for adopting its Requirements Document.)
It is also to be noted that these requirements will be the guiding
instruments for developing the Human Markup Language Base Schema and
specifying the subsequent development of extended schemas for
particular application areas, such as the Human Physical
Characteristics Description Markup Language,
HumanML_Write/HumanML_Report, and VR-AI.
Ranjeeth explained that his personal development effort for a
HumanMarkup Application Area, as yet undefined in terms of whether it
will be an extended schema of its own, or a collection of subset
modules, will be in the arena of Diplomatic Communications.
Rob Nixon described his work with Quantum Dynamics using a motion
capture suit to capture movement sequences and begin associating those
movements and gestures with behavioral states, such as emotional
states. The group asked several questions and a discussion ensued
about the ramifications for this work in beginning the process of
establishing a set of gestures which could be associated with
emotional states in a more formal way, perhaps using a system of
tokenizing these underlying relationships of emotion/behavior
associations, and streaming this information.
There was a further brief discussion about whether we should make
public our membership database once we have a version ready that can
be used as a model of developing a profile such as we intend for
HumanMarkup. This idea was not adopted, since it would constitute a
potential for conflicts of interest.
The meeting was then adjourned, with the next meeting scheduled for
February 20, 2002 at 12:00 Noon EST.
