Dear Vince Gaffney, <br>
<br>
Thank you for your inquiry, and in the hopes of furthering discussion and
collaboration between you and your team at University of Birmingham and the
OASIS Human Markup Language Technical Committee (HumanML TC) and the NDSU
Archaeology Technologies Laboratory (ATL) and our collaborators elsewhere,
I provide a brief initial response to your inquiry and ask that others I
have cc'd (HumanML TC, Franco Niccolucci, Jeffrey T. Clark, Donald Sanders)
also reply as deemed appropriate. <br>
Your area of interest and expertise is well within the scopes of our activities
and we welcome your participation in discussion of, and collaboration on,
markup language development activities. At present, HumanML TC&nbsp; and the Human
Physical Characteristics Description Markup Language (HPCDML) subcommittee
are developing a range of use cases for the Primary Base Schema and constructing
the HPCDML in collaboration with a broader range of markup language development
teams, Pending award of funding to various participants, we will be developing
use cases for HumanML HPCDML,, the Anthropology Markup Language (AnthML; and
ATL project), and Virtual Heritage Modeling Language (VHML; &nbsp;a joint ATL
and Institute for the Visualization of History (VIZIN) project), and other
markup languages, such as the Anatomical Markup Language (AnatML; developed
by the Biomedical Engineering &nbsp;Research Group at the University of Auckland,
New Zealand). Your work in 3D visualization of sites and monuments, such
as Stonehenge is important, and the ultimate goal of including markup for
human behavior and (and the emotions tied to behavior) , e.g., behaviors
and interactions of virtual humans (avatars) within 3D environments is an
equally significant undertaking, and one that members of the HumanML TC,
ATL, VIZIN and others in related organizations and institutions have begun
pursuing with earnestness in recent years. Your work with GIS in 3D environments
is also significant, and your expertise in this domain is also relevant to
our undertakings. We are working on some of the issues you inquire about,
and others not discussed here, independently, under various project scopes
and goals, and collectively in further development of the markup languages.
We would be particularly interested in learning more about and engaging further
discussion with you and your team about the micro-level markup applications
within virtual heritage environments. <br>
<br>
If you have not done so already, please review information and documentation
at the web sites below, as I am certain that review of the content on these
pages will answer many of your basic questions. In the meantime, if you would
like to pursue discussions of specific issues, please contact me at your
earliest convenience. &nbsp;<br>
