Subject: Re: [huml] FW: Proposed Conflict Resolution SC - Charter

Title: Re: [huml] FW: Proposed Conflict Resolution SC - Chart
I have two thoughts about the Mission Statement.

I think you might want to add "mediate" to "mitigate" in relation to conflict.

I think you might want to consider another word than "feed" in the Mission Statement. It isn't clear what you mean. Perhaps "inform the development" or "help shape the development" or "aid the development" or another construction that means providing requirements to HumanML work on a Secondary Set of Schemata for Conflict Resolution  might better clarify the specific purpose of the subcommittee.

You might also want to include the Department of Justice explicitlyunder government agencies in the scope section for interested parties, since we do have observers from that arena who might then be interested in exploring a formal liaison.

I would vote in favor of it regardless, so there is no concern on that account. I just want to encourage you to keep refining the message, even after it is accepted, as I hope we all will in order to find ways to make this work more attractive to potential participants. I think the idea of a standard vocabulary for mediation and conflict resolution that could be used in less formal conflict mediation that will then not require legal action per se might be very attractive to the DOJ, especially if it works with cultural vocabularies that promote better understanding among different ethnic groups.

We need not call the vote until you say that you think you have finalized sufficiently, and the same goes for Rob's efforts. So I think votes should only be called if you guys feel ok about it. Say we call it on Monday, for a vote to last two weeks from whenever we do call the vote and I will set it up on the webpage.

Ciao,
Rex

Here is the long overdue draft charter for the Conflict Resolution SC.

The first step is simply to gather resources in the arena, technical and non-technical.  As I mentioned during our TC meeting, I may not have the resources to contribute extensively to this SC, at least in the near future, but I am hopeful we can find individuals in the government or NGO arena already involved in conflict resolution work to take on this particular effort.
