Subject: RE: [huml] Locale-centric User Interfaces
It's a *serious* joke, James. It illustrates the absurdity of HumanML claims when pushed to extremes, and the assumptions of competence by reference. Here is some feedback by one of the world's leading experts who is often referenced on this list: "Re HumanML: I can't imagine that as anything other than a joke or a fantasy of a naive waif who picked up a stick and thought it was a magic wand. Did you see the kind of stuff those people write: http://xml.gov/documents/completed/huml/HumanMLinGov.htm Human Markup Language in Government As a taxpayer, I want to sue them for wasting my money." len -----Original Message----- From: James Landrum [mailto:james.landrum@ndsu.nodak.edu] Sent: Monday, February 09, 2004 2:17 PM To: Bullard, Claude L (Len) Cc: 'Rex Brooks'; huml@lists.oasis-open.org Subject: Re: [huml] Locale-centric User Interfaces Len et al, Seems to me that designing andcreating OperatingSystem(OS)-specific GUIs are couinter-productive in terms of longer term goals of opensource/openaccess projects, particularly those of the Semantic Web, and particularly of existing, new, and emerging cultural heritage ontologies. That said, the windowsxp.jpg is sorta cute, and I like the ethnic country-style theme, but this appears to be more of an XP desktop countrified desktop icon set than anything else. If what I interepret this to be is correct, you are supportive of vendor-specific windows desktop customizations, etc., and that is fine by me, but I don't understand the tie-in to the HumanML effort beyond recognizing the potential for smaller local or even regionally-oriented themeatic GUIs- and that is something that requires a mature HumanML, which we don't have as yet.
