Title: TC Meeting Today
Hi Again
Everyone,
We have our montly TC
meeting today. Summer is always difficult, but if you can attend,
please do. I may be the only one of us who happens to know the various
reasons why many of us have cause to be personally discouraged.
However, I want to remind you all that this work is critical and the
need for us has never been greater.
The good news is that
if we can find a way to renew our commitment and re-energize ourselves
to take up the work despite some of our personal adversities, the
vagaries of summer vacation season and our current lack of apparent
progress, we can make real, tangible, significant progress in the
fall, and more so after the election. While our personal timing, as I
know only too well, may not be fortunate at the moment, the prospect
for Q1-Q2 2005 is very propitious, provided we can set the stage
now.
I don't want to go
into details on the list about the concatenation of developments on
the web services, emergency management, e-government and e-legal
fronts, but all of them are coming to the same tipping point, excuse
the buzz word/concept. That tipping point can be focused directly on
us and we need to be prepared. Likewise, in terms of the architecture
that supports IT, the focus of software development will also be on
these same needs, the key pieces of functionality for which we can be
conduit.
Let me remind you that
we are uniquely positioned to be able to offer an unbiased existing
structure for the public and private interests that need a way to
harmonize the multitude of standards for the entire range of networked
applications that must deal with individual humans. Why would anyone
go through the grind of a standards working group/TC startup when
there is one that can be joined and put to the very uses your needs
dictate?
But we must be
prepared to step forward credibly and make our case. Let me also
remind you that it is down here in the trenches where the really
important groundwork gets done, and we need to get this ground better
prepared just in time for the moment that is now well over the horizon
and approaching rapidly.
Let's get ready,
eh?
