Subject: OASIS Symposium _ SOA for E-Government Update - Next Meeting
Hi Everyone, I wanted to apologize to everyone for being so tardy in updating you all on the recent events of the OASIS Symposium, May 9-12 and the SOA for E-Government Conference May 23-24. That certainly explains why I was busy, but it doesn't excuse me for neglecting to inform you all of the results. So, let's remediate that. OASIS Symposium: I gave a brief overview of our efforts to date in the lightning rounds, and spoke to Mary McRae about our situation, to let her know that I have indeed produced a first draft of the revisions to the primary base schemata and that I plan to arrange our next meeting. I had planned to call it for today, but that would not have allowed me sufficient time to absorb the developments of the Symposium and the E-Gov Conference, considering I had presentations at both events. I think that the need for identity management both in the fields of web service security and healthcare, for reliable and portable patient identity, as well as in applications for emergency alerting based on the newly approved Emergency Data Exchange Language Disribution Element (EDXL_DE) provide us with an opportunity to focus on the needs for comprehensive human identity management services across the entire spectrum of social services and relationships from residential to postal to employment to healthcare to financial, educational and legal circumstances. The question of how we approach what has been in front of us all this time in a logical and productive manner, quite apart from our previously mandated wrap-up of our deliverables as TC on the verge of shutdown, is one I think we need to discuss. I think that perhaps our original charter and the more recent revision needs to be revisited and perhaps the issue of human identity management could be the basis for a joint committee with security committees and the new Biometric Identity Assurance Services TC. The idea is still that pulling together the many standards related to individual human information is a necessity that no other one single TC or organization for that matter, genuinely covers, and neither do we, but the need is there. I would also like to say that the news from the International Health Continuum may also enhance our position with regard to attracting new interest. I will write more on this soon. Additionally, the Emergency Management TC was invited to promote the Common Alerting Protocol at a joint OASIS-ITU event in Geneva in October, and this highlights the importance once again of identity management that is critical in both getting alerts to people and in verifying identity under difficult circummstances. SOA for E-Government Conference: The pilot group I work with had a very successful presentation, but a small audience for this conference. However, since this group is focused on emergency alerting and health services, both domains relate to our focus on individual human information, and the web services registry we are building could also provide a model for storage of individual information at some point in the future. I will also be suggesting a possible pilot program for emergency alerting for low-income, disabled or special-needs clientele who need extra consideration in emergency alerting, such as audio or video based systems for hearing and vision-impaired residents and/or workers. I think a scenario that combines both building sensors with evacuation of some areas and shelter-in-place for other areas and that occurs in an urban setting with both residential and office buildings involved might be suitable. I will set up a meeting for the fourth Wednesday of June, and announce it soon.
