Subject: RE: Draft Minutes of ICOM TC Meeting, July 8, 2009
Deidre is amending the draft minute
of July 8 TC Meeting: Where it was stated that
‘Deirdre will check the status of presence ontology’, it should be stated
‘Peter will check the status of presence ontology’, as Peter agreed to
investigate the presence ontology more and see if it suited our needs. The ontology in question is the Online
Presence Ontology(OMO), by Milan Stankovic. http://www.milanstankovic.org/opo/specs/2009/OPO-20090501/ Regards, Eric From: Eric Chan Minutes

Approval of the draft minutes from June 10 and 24 Meetings were deferred. 3.
Peter Saint-Andre explained that ICOM presence model may support contextual
presence (ICOM don’t really need system-wide presence). Contextual presence in
community, workspace, forum, conference, chat room, etc., contexts requires
client applications to track user interactions with workspaces, forums, and mouse/keyboard
activities. Contextual presence can include ambient information, such as
current task/activity, location, device, etc. Information from ICOM calendar
and task schedules and other ICOM contexts can be superimposed on dynamic
presence. Contextual presence can be challenging to support, usually requires
thick clients, and has reliability issue when the client provides information. Deirdre
asked whether ICOM is defining a new presence model. Peter has extensive
involvement in presence and XMPP standards and technologies. He will provide
references and summary data points for the technologies. Deirdre mentioned a
student at DERI worked on contextual presence ontology. Deirdre will check the
status of presence ontology. Peter
asked whether presence is too detailed for the initial model of ICOM. Eric
proposed ICOM will start with the most general features of community,
workspace, and containment. Contextual presence is a detailed feature so may
not be part of the initial model. The
meeting was adjourned. |
