Subject: Draft Minutes of ICOM TC Meeting, July 7, 2010

Minutes of ICOM TC Meeting, July 7, taken by Eric S. Chan

Agenda

1. Roll Call

2. Approve the slogan for ICOM

3. Approve the milestones

4. Planning for presentation/demo of ICOM to "OWL2: Tools and Applications" virtual  panel session

5. AOB

1. The following eligible members were present

Deirdre Lee

Laura Dragan

Patrick Durusau

Peter Yim

Zhe Wu

Eric Chan

2. Approve the slogan for ICOM

The TC Meeting participants approved the following slogan. Please note that the word standard is in singular for:

Standard for integrated and interoperable enterprise collaboration

Deirdre added the slogan to ICOM public page. This slogan need not be final; it can be updated if there are better suggestions voted by the majority of TC members.

3. Approve the milestones.

Marc is on summer vacation through July. Hence the task #5 that was assigned to Marc was reassigned for Eric, Deirdre, Laura to join efforts, with support by Peter, Stefan, Patrick.

Eric is to check with a friend from Oracle Marketing department about available channels to submit publications to trade magazines, such as ComputerWorld and InformationWeek. Peter suggested the alternative is to supply the technical material to the magazine column/syndicated writers, and marketing people may have relationship with the writers. Peter also suggested that after we write the article, we can contact Fritz Nelson, author of an InformationWeek article on Cisco’s Cius and Quad product announcements.

The milestone 7 is related to the meeting agenda item 4 about a demo setup for Ontolog virtual panel on Aug 5. Deidre pointed that Ontolog content is an appropriate choice for representation in ICOM RDF, however it is a longer term plan than the short-term demo on Aug 5. We will continue to explore the use of Ontology forum dataset and if necessary improvise the dataset for the demo, as discussed under agenda item 4.

For the milestone 8, Patrick accepted the role of editor to co-edit the draft specification.

The milestones 8 and 9 are related. As Peter suggested during the workshop, the TC can survey the state-of-the-art of technologies form collaboration vendors (using product literatures and whitepapers) and incorporate the possible feedbacks of the ICOM from the vendors in the draft specification in an iterative process.

4. Planning for presentation/demo of ICOM to "OWL2: Tools and Applications" virtual  panel session on Thursday, August 5.

We plan to combine OWL-2 tools (Oracle RDF database) and OWL-2 applications (ICOM RDF ontology) in the demo. We will explore the use of Ontolog forum for the RDF dataset in the demo.

Peter provided the following URL’s for the Ontolog forum, wiki, files, and conferences.

* discussion list archives - http://ontolog.cim3.net/forum/
* OntologWiki - http://ontolog.cim3.net/wiki/
* webdav (shared-file) server - http://ontolog.cim3.net/file/

Laura created accounts for Peter and Zhe to access the RDF model of ICOM from Neologism, at http://resources.smile.deri.ie/icom/. You can export the RDF or N3 files from Neologism.

The ontolog-forum threads are archived email messages in mbox format (Mailman). The email threads will have to be translated into forum discussion threads. The messages with the same subject (ignore the Re:, Fwd:, and other subject prefixes) will be grouped under the same ICOM topic (a container).

Alan proposed several ideas to generate the URL to be used for RDF resource identifiers. He plan to map the URL to msg ids in the email header. For example,

<http://ontolog.cim3.net/forum/ontolog-forum/2009-01/msg00000.html>  hasMessageId  <002701c96ed2$e4d2af50$ae780df0$@nist.gov> .

Laura suggested the URL generation rules for Linked Data projects.

5. AOB

Meeting was adjourned.
