Subject: RE: [id-cloud] JTC1 SC38 study group on cloud computing
Hi Jamie, I attended the SC38 SGCC Open Meeting yesterday in Boulder and plan to update my friend Anil and the id-cloud team on the various presentations and dialogues. It was a very good meeting. The good news is that OASIS and id-cloud is already on SC38 SG 1's radar, as can be seen in this latest v.2 of their Draft Study (page 26). Their intention was to work with id-cloud in the second half of 2011. The next Open Meeting is expected to be in Seoul in September if they can set it up on either side of the ISO/IEC JTC SC38 4th Plenary (although ITU-T is also having meetings then too). At a minimum, the meeting was a good one because 10 SDO's outlined what they were doing in the Cloud Space: DMTF, SNI, OGF, CSA, TM Forum, GICTF, The Open Group, IEEE, ITU-T and ATIS. The SC38 SGCC, led by Seungyun Lee of ETRI, will continue to define potential work items as they pursue whether it makes sense for them to form a formal WG or not. The link to the presentations is not working today so I am trying to gather a set of the various SDO presentations if anyone is interested in receiving copies. If anyone outside of id-cloud has any questions about the event, please feel free to contact me. We should make sure that relevant OASIS work products are in front of them for their consideration, as that project progresses. There obviously is some potential for shared topics with our ID-Cloud TC. The use cases generated by our OASIS TC will be publicly posted. I plan to send a short liaison statement to the SC38 study group, simply noting the existence of the OASIS work. Would the ID-Cloud TC also like to establish a liaison, or pursue any more direct contact for cross-fertilization? Are there are specific metholodogical materials that the TC would like to see us share with the JTC1 folks? Some earlier work of WS-I.org also collects modeled use cases. see: http://www.ws-i.org/SampleApplications/SupplyChainManagement/2003-12/SCMUseC ases1.0.pdf OASIS only serves as archival publisher of the legacy WS-I works, with whatever rights and constraints were established by WS-I. So we are not in a position to do anything formal like contribute the material. However, it's all available there in our archives, for passive public viewing as a resource or exemplar. I think it also would be sensible to send a short liaison statement to the SC38 cloud study group,, pointing out those 2003 WS-I use cases also, as another possible source of templates for their work. In WS-I matters, our WS-I member section steering committee serves as our experts, so before sending anything out, let me ask, do the WS-I StC members have any views about how we should interact there?
