Subject: STORK 2 - EU cross-border identity pilot projects

OK,

So the main question is: Who feels that they could provide authoritative input and advice to the STORK 2 project, particularly with regard to SAML?

If we can get a name, I’d be happy to provide the liaison with the proposed STORK 2 consortium to get them on board. But we have to be quick, as the deadline is looming….

And, yes, there is contractual money involved

Regards,

Peter

Thank you Peter (what are you doing up so early?),
For once I can speak for OASIS since this is a bit of an admin issue.
OASIS does not possess IPR per se - our members do; that's why, even when we are members of another org, we contribute no IPR. But we do have people representing us in "consortia" or large-scale projects, such as STORK. I think SIENA is exactly like STORK and we have Gershon Janssen and John Borras speaking on behalf of OASIS: they provide advice and act as liaisons.
That is completely feasible. If Anil or Hal care to do the same ...
Finally it seems to me that the end-game is to get these guys to standardize their output in OASIS as per the PEPPOL example.

Hmmm,

Is there anything we can do with this?

Would SAML be interested and/or able to take this up? And how would we handle the legal/contractual issues of ‘OASIS’ as an entity joining such a consortium…

Dear Peter,

I have communicated to the core team your interest and some question arises since in STORK we do not create standards but support standardisation and we would need technical advice on WP4īs SAML profile.

Could you please indicate to me who would participate as legal entity? Is OASIS a legal entity or will it be a company?

I copy in this message WP4 leader (Miguel) and WP6 co-leaders (Reinhard and Neil) so you all can check if this fits in STORK 2.0.

Best regards,

Alicia.

Hi Reinhard, thanks for the prompt reply.

Indeed, the project is about pilots and with an extended scope as you say, with health sector and banking.

Our concern, as OASIS, would be to see what role we can play in facilitating the development of new – or greater take-up of existing – standards in this project. As you know, we have a new TC set up to pursue work for PEPPOL (the OASIS BDX TC) that will hopefully provide a durable standard beyond the lifetime of that large-scale pilot – so the main question is: has STORK identified a “gap in the market” of IDM standards that needs to be filled? If the answer is yes, then our participation could be helpful; if no, then it would be a different issue.

All the best,

Peter

.. indeed June 1st is very near. On the question of technicality of joining this late

Alicia Garcia Medina <alicia.garcia@atosresearch.eu> from ATOS could give

you more details.

Then it would come to what is OASIS bringing to the pilots. It is pilots - having

said this I mean that it is about interoperability of existing eID of Member States

also with flavors like using them in the private sector like banks and heath care.

Was nice to hear from you

Reinhard

Hi,

I was talking last week in Brussels with Jean-Francois Junger at the European Commission and he mentioned the current CfP for the next phase of STORK.

He suggested that OASIS, as a standards organisation active in IDM, ought to consider joining the proposed new consortium, and help with the delivery of standards to be used in the STORK.

Any thoughts on the matter? Is it realistic, given that the deadline is 1st June?

Best regards from (not so sunny) Los Angeles

Peter
