Subject: Groups to Unify I.T. Policy Agenda

Title: Message

(June 22, 2005) The American Health Information Management Association and American Medical Informatics Association will work to develop a common I.T. policy agenda.

The goal is to have a clearer, unified message to policymakers from those designing and building health care information technology systems, and those using the systems.

Under a memorandum of understanding, the groups will create and maintain a common agenda for public policy positions, issue joint position statements, sponsor events to educate policymakers, and share information among their 55,000 members.

The associations will jointly work in such areas as advancing the use of health care information technology, addressing workforce issues, advocating standards, and protecting the privacy and security of health information.
