In order to better support the financial services industry, Todd Arnold has suggested modifications/enhancements to the KMIP specification in several areas:
- clear and precise definitions on exactly what each of the KMIP key types can be used for; also extend the current set of key types
- support matched pairs of symmetric keys
- add attribute: "this key must be protected by hardware"
