Subject: presentation from last week's OASIS workshop


Hi –

 

I spoke about KMIP last week at the OASIS workshop on Identity, Privacy and Data Protection in the Cloud, described below. I’ve attached the deck I used – it’s based on Tim’s diagrams from the interop and the F2F slides on KMIP in the cloud.

 

It was a short discussion, but there were some good questions, particular Tony Nadalin urging that we move forward with server-to-server use cases.

Complimentary Workshop: OASIS: Identity, Privacy, and Data Protection in the Cloud – What is Being Done? Is it Enough?

Tuesday, 17 April

Part One: OASIS Standards and Cloud Security – 09:00 to 11:25

Part one of the workshop will provide an overview of important standards under development that are applicable to the cloud, including identity, access controls, data protection and policy discovery and management.  It will also examine use cases developed by the OASIS IDCloud Technical Committee, examining the identity-related complexities, barriers and issues that are present in cloud environments. The co-Chair of the IDCloud TC will lead the discussion, and provide a report on the outcome of committee’s evaluation process and future direction.

Part Two: Privacy Management reference Model and Methodology (PMRM) – Overview and Use Case Workshop – 11:25 to 13:00

Part two of the workshop will begin with an overview of the new OASIS Privacy Management Reference Model and Methodology (PMRM), recently balloted as a Draft Committee Specification.  Following the PMRM overview, editors of the PMRM draft specification will host a use case study workshop,  which will interactively develop one or more use cases following the PMRM methodology. With so much attention given the proposed EU Data Protection Regulation and EC consultations on cloud computing and the Internet of Things, this special hands-on roundtable will offer policymakers, business managers, practitioners and technologists an introduction to a valuable tool  to help understand privacy management requirements and the functionality necessary to ensure operational compliance.
